“How did I know it was Bike to Work Week? – The rain, of course!”
We’re two days into Bike to Work Week 2013 and commuters are singing the same old tune: “if it’s not raining, it’s not Bike to Work Week!” In spite of the grey mornings and unrelenting rain, thousands of cyclists around Vancouver are suiting up and riding their bikes to work every year. This is the week to tip your helmet to those gliding through the raindrops!
The happy shiny people at HUB Vancouver organize two weeks each year to celebrate those who have chosen to leave their car at home and jump on two wheels. You can register on their website to log your commutes and enter to win great prizes. There’s even a greenhouse gas counter to demonstrate how your commuting choice affects the environment! Since 2008, Ethical Bean has been brewing up coffee for those lucky enough to cross one of HUB’s Celebration Stations.
BTWW’s Celebration Stations are set up all over the lower mainland (check out their Bike To Work Week Stations map!) where commuters can celebrate all things bike. You can stop to chat about your bike route with a rep from the City of Vancouver, snack on some healthy treats, and get free tune-ups from local bike shops. Ethical Bean is always proud to serve up coffee for soggy cyclists at select morning and afternoon stops, and this year is no exception.
Bring your mug on your morning ride in, or stop and chat on your way home from work. You may even stumble across something awesome along your route!
