The Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point, also known as HACCP, is a system of safety in food production and pharmaceuticals. The system is used by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and in the US, by Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Agriculture to ensure safe procedures and products.
In 2009, Ethical Bean Coffee became HACCP compliant through extensive physical plant re-organization and other systems implementation that include daily, weekly, monthly, and annual checks of our manufacturing processes.
As part of our HACCP program, Ethical Bean Coffee follows food processing ‘Good Manufacturing Practices’ which are the core of any functional food safety program. This means that we are constantly monitoring every part of our business: from how the green coffee is selected by our Director of Coffee through how we check the outgoing trucks for cleanliness and all points in between. All our processes and records are audited annually by GFTC, an independent third-party food safety auditor.
We are proud to say we scored a 96 – or ‘excellent’ score – on our first audit and continue to try and improve on that. What can we say? We’re nerdy like that!
